Originally an institute for church music founded in 1879 by Jaak Nikolaas Lemmens, the Lemmensinstituut developed into a complete Conservatorium, offering training in a wide range of disciplines in Music (Composition, Conducting, Instrument/Voice, Jazz, Music Education and Music Therapy) and Drama.

“’Campus Lemmensinstituut” nowadays is a part of the LUCA School of Arts, associated with the KULeuven.

The campus bubbles with activity. Students give various concerts every day and a large concert by eminent musicians from Belgium and abroad can be heard every week; the drama department regulary is setting up performances in the school and on other locations in the city of Leuven.

In projects spread over the whole academic year, all students join in working on the performance of musical masterpieces from the past and the present. In the masterclasses and during international exchanges the students have the opportunity to meet foreign masters.

Infrastructure
LUCA School of Arts Campus Lemmensinstituut  is situated in a large park on the edge of the city of Leuven. It has a modern infrastructure with various concert halls, theatres, ballet rooms, multimedia rooms, a library and numerous studios.

Activities
Concerts by invited ensembles, by professors and students; introductions to the concerts; masterclasses; special projects with the preparation and the execution of musical masterpieces, e.g. oratoria, vocal-orchestral works, annual tradition of het execution of a passion by Bach, specialized student ensembles for ancient music, contemporary music, chamber orchestra, big band; conferences, seminars, lectures; guest professors with a typical specialization, e.g. traditional music, world music, jazz, use of video and computer in musical activities.

- Cafetaria offers you the possibility to have a sandwich-meal and to discuss music matters with many other musicians
- Free use of all city busses in Leuven and close surroundings
- The Association with KU Leuven gives us the opportunity to present some more services like Study Support, Medical Support, Social Service, Sports
- Student Restaurants (ALMA) on various locations in town

Student Life at LUCA Campus Lemmensinstituut
The students' movement at LUCA – Campus Lemmensinstituut regroups two main activities: the student representation ( Dit e-mailadres is beschermd tegen spambots. The first activity consists of representing the needs and questions of all our students in several boards and meetings, like Faculty Board, Academic Board and Social Services. The second is a little less serious one and organizes parties, sports activities, cultural affairs and many more "creative acts". The representatives of Cluster can be contacted.

Culture
The "Concertvereniging" organises weekly a concert freely accessible for all students of the Lemmensinstituut. Other students are welcome at a special student price.
