The Lemmensinstituut would like to create a favourable climate and an adequate research environment in order to develop research projects and create possibilities to present the research outcomes to the press and the audience. This is done a.o. by means of concerts (in cooperation with the Concert Association of the Lemmensinstituut) and the magazine Adem which, on a departmental level, plays a key role in communicating the research output.
The above-mentioned initiative results in specific objectives:stimulating specific research projects featuring teachers and students as artist-researchers linking the teachers’ and students’ practice of art to research projects that are stimulated by the artistry mentioned above
- stimulating specific research projects with an interdisciplinary character. By interdisciplinary research is meant: artistic and academic research within a musical context; or research that links music to other artistic disciplines or to disciplines outside the artistic field, including artistic as well as academic research
- implementing research in bachelor, master and manama training, which is realised in cooperation with the persons in charge of educational development
- preparing the aspect of research in the doctorates in music, in cooperation with the Institute for Research in the Arts of the K.U.Leuven Association and the Orpheus Instituut Gent
- taking care of high-quality research
- developing research opportunities in an international context, in which foreign partners of the Lemmensinstituut (whether associated with Erasmus or not) are involved.
Of major concern is the constant interaction between research and education, which allows students to develop into artist-researchers.This implementation of research in education is realised by way of: optimising specific courses (“Encyclopedia Seminar” and “General Introduction to artistic research”)
- the practice and development of the art
- workshops and masterclasses
- synergism between master test and artistic research project
- a network of tutors and supervisors
- reflecting upon the basis of musical thinking (through the study of literature, bibliographical research, heuristics)
Research cannot be dissociated from the development and practice of the arts and the social service which is implied.
The Research Board is in charge of the results and implementation of research and the development and evaluation of research projects.
